Fluorinated Gases

All fluorinated gases are created by humans. They include:

  • Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
  • Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
  • Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6)

They are gases that have been created for use as refrigerants and for other industrial purposes. Even though these gases occur in very low concentrations in the atmosphere, they are so potent as greenhouse gases that they contribute 14% to the current warming trend.
