How To Help Prevent Global Warming Using Your Gas Purchasing Power
"How do we prevent global warming," you ask?
Here's an easy way for you to help prevent global warming: use your purchasing power at the pump (reducing your driving is much more important, but if you drive, then this is worth doing).
Every oil company website lists how that particular company is
improving its production of oil and reducing its emissions, but all oil
companies are not created equal.
Make sure you buy your gas from the oil companies that
produce the least amount of CO2 emmissions to help encourage the other
oil companies to follow suit.
Aviod Buying Gas From Chevron and Exxon Mobil to Help Prevent Global Warming
A 2003 report released by Oekom Research, a Munich-based firm, rated the
26 major oil and gas companies on a scale from A+ to D-. The report,
which took a number of factors into its equation, rated ChevronTexaco
and ExxonMobil each with a D+ when it come to global warming prevention.
However, another webpage showing the pollution from American-based oil
refineries gave ChevronTexaco some credit.
Also, you might want to note, in
June 2005, eight communities in Nigeria sued several large oil
companies for gas flaring. Gas flaring is a process that releases
a number of global
warming causing pollutants, including methane and carbon dioxide, and Exxon, Chevon and Shell were
among the defendants.
Purchasing Gas From Citgo, BP, or
Smaller Oil Companies Helps Prevent Global Warming.
While
all oil companies put on a public face that they care about the
environment, according to my research Citgo, BP, and the smaller
companies such as Valero
and Shamrock often lead the environmental pack.
My recommendation would be to avoid shopping for gasoline at ExxonMobil
and ChevronTexaco whenever possible and instead pump your gas at Citgo, BP or smaller
companies. It will help prevent
global warming from getting worse and it can help reduce other
environmental degradation as well.
Remember, Reducing Your Driving Does The Most To Prevent Global Warming: Where You Purcase Your Gas Is Important, But Secondary
While I just explained which companies you should purchase gas from, that comes with a big grain of salt. Reducing you driving does far more to help prevent global warming than paying attantion to where you buy your gas.
Please take some time and learn how to reduce your driving, this global warming prevention article has a number of recources to help you. Do all you can to reduce your driving (many people live without cars all over the world, and you can too), but if you don't eliminate your driving then use your gas purchasing power to do what you can to help prevent global warming at the pump.
